Training & Programs

Human Rights Defenders' Network
The Hako Women’s Collective has   a  team of Human Rights Defenders  trained by another HWC Partner,  Nazareth Community Family Retreat, who are committed to addressing FASV and involved in defending  rights of  families and clients suffering from sexual violence. HWC programs continually recruit young women and girls (school leavers) to the BWHRDN (Bougainville women Human Rights Defenders Network) to empower them to live in safety and security in the vulnerable years of adolescence in rural community of Haku.
The rate of rape and teenage pregnancies is still high but we are making an impact with this BWHRDN network and its activities.

HWC training
HWC runs programs for the Hako community to support families and develop skills for non-violent relationships and protection of human rights. Key programs include:
  • Positive Parenting - a 6-week course 4 times a year in Hako villages, to support parents in bringing up their children and caring for themselves. Recently expanded to increase the material on men's health.
  • Ending Violence against Children (EVAC)
  • SPLP (Stret Pasin blong Lukautim Pikinini)
  • Bougainville Women and Youth Human Rights Defenders Network
HWC also organise and coordinate programs for church and community organisations on important skills and issues such as governance.
